What Motivates Eating? Part I
When was the last time you ate because you were hungry? Most of us eat for a variety of reasons, and eating when we are hungry is only one of them. We eat when we’re sad, we eat when we’re frustrated, we eat when we’re angry, we eat when we’re lonely, and we eat when we’re bored. We eat to be social, we eat because it’s time to eat, we eat when we’re thirsty, and we eat when we’re tired.
No wonder being over weight or obese has reached chronic proportions in the United States. How can we not gain weight? We’re eating all of the time!
We have a couple of questions we can ask ourselves prior to putting food in our mouths. Attending to the answers to these questions will begin to help us reach the goal of maintaining a healthful weight. One questions is: “Am I hungry?” If you are not hungry, the next question is: “What is my motivation to eat?”
What Motivates Eating? Part 2 will explore ways to manage our emotional eating.
Check back with us from time to time as we continue to build the cM weight management library.
