spilt milk

Spilt milk—broken dishes—Stay calm! When someone drops a dish or turns over a glass of milk on a hectic morning when you’re trying to get everyone breakfast and off to school or work, it is so easy to raise your voice. “Why can’t you be more careful?” was my reaction until one day I broke something belonging to my husband. I was so sorry and upset, but my husband said, “Don’t worry honey, sometimes these things happen”. Now, whenever there is an accident I try to remember that peace giving phrase, “Don’t worry honey, sometimes these things happen.”

At the same time, having the accident maker face the consequences of clean up or replacement goes a long way in helping that person learn to be more careful. Don’t be afraid to tenderly put a rag in a small child’s hand and show him/her how to help you wipe up the milk!
