Equipment
Many weight training exercises require nothing but the weight of your body. However, there are some pieces of equipment that will greatly enhance the comfort and convenience of your home exercise program.
1.A good quality Exercise Mat. Some are so thin that you might as well be on the floor. Find a mat that is at least 1-? or 2 inches thick. It is well worth the expense. If a mat is thinner than that, make certain it is made of a high-density padding.
2.Adjustable Ankle Weights. Most adjustable weights are made to increase to a maximum of 5 pounds per weight. However, some are made to increase to 12 or even 20 pounds. You want to make sure that you get a pair that will not slip uncomfortably as your raise and lower your leg, or foot. Velcro straps seem to be best.
3.Dumbbells Eventually, you are going to either get tired of lifting a can of soup or a bag of pinto beans, or you are going to need more weight. As you add weight, you also need to pay attention to body alignment. Dumbbells allow you to do both. Start with a set of 5 lb. dumbbells, then an 8 lb., and finally a 10lb. With those three sets, you’ll be able to lift a total of 18 lbs, if needed. That’s enough.
