 Welcome to dinner bonding!
show and tell
-Ask each person at the table to think of and share the Best thing that happened to them that day. Praise, congratulate and discuss each.
-Choose a "word of the week" you learn the meaning of and practice using in sentences. Let everyone take turns choosing the word. Challenge everyone in the family to use it as many times as they can during the week. You can even give points for every time they are caught using the word correctly and they could add up points toward some sort of reward or prize.-Then have them share the Worst thing that happened. Sympathize and discuss. Do not criticize or belittle what they think is bad.
-Practice memorizing with the family at the table the cM bible verse of the day.
show and care
-Keep a "special" plate on hand. It can be one specifically made for that purpose or just a colorful plate that is different from the plates you usually use to set the table. Then give the "special" plate to celebrate a special day. Use on birthdays - of course - but use it more than once a year. How about using it to celebrate an A on a report card? Use it to show your appreciation when someone has done something especially helpful during the day without being asked. Then be sure to explain in front of all at the table why the plate was given. Hold hands when saying grace before dinner. Rotate the honor of saying grace.
-Let the birthday person choose what they want to have for dinner on that special day. You could also let them select a special dessert. The birthday person may have a particular kind of cake they really like or really don't like, or they may rather have a pie or brownies. Candles look good on brownies too.
-If you struggle like most of us do with "vegetable-phobia" at the dinner table, try this exclusive cM trick (and they will never know because we won't tell)! Cook your cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots in a cup or two of broth (chicken or vegetable). Once the veggies are tender, drain and puree in the blender. Add to your spaghetti sauce and they will never know what hit them! It makes the sauce richer and it tastes great too!
